A Miracle
Jonathan Hoomanawanui recently released Jonathan Hoomanawanui Slack Key and Ukulele Virtuoso. I had just lost my mom September 23, 2023 she had gone home to see the creator. Around the Spring of 2024 I started producing songs in small closet where my clothes hung in my Liliha apartment. Before creating my project I came across the memories of my childhood. A sense purpose per se. A sense of what would happen to me if I didn’t leave a Legacy behind which stem from my dad and mom. Those unique styles intertwine with voices, playing the ukulele and playing the guitar. It was a spiritual experience taking over my mind and body, making feel like it needed to be done.
In short, My dad was from Kainaliu Kona Hawaii. My mom came Wainiha Kauai Hawaii. Dad was a Tom Jones and Englebert Humperdinck kind of guy. And mom was a traditional Hawaiian music kind of girl who sang tunes of old Hawaii. As I grew up listening to Tom and Englebert in my left ear and Mom’s traditional Hawaiian music in my right ear at a young age it grew upon me and inner feeling indescribable.
The journey began in the third grade. I started playing Ukulele and never stopped since. Then onto the guitar at age 21, while stationed in Germany (US. Army).
The reason why I’m writing this is because something tragically happened, to me right after the recording. One evening I came home from a gig about 10pm. I sat around watching television and decided to get up off the furniture to brush my teeth. Soon after brushing my teeth I began to feel weak wanting to fall and very dizzy. I plopped down on the bed it didn’t feel right. Then, I remembered my dad suffered a stroke. Nervously, I struggled to my feet, then it hit me I was having a stroke.
It was the evening of Monday 23 September 2024, 11:15pm. I struggled with the 911 call. Couldn’t get the right hand to cooperate. I finally got through. What frightening experience. The 28th I was released from Queens Hospital and placed in Rehab of the Pacific for a twelve days of rigorous schedule. The daily schedule included: Physical therapy, Occupational therapy, Speech therapy totaling three hours. Then I was released the 12th of October 2024 to go home.
The amazing thing happened, I had a musical performance on the 14th of October, just two days after therapy and 19 days from the emergency room. A miracle only God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit can heal.
